Wikipedia
Wikipedia is a free content online encyclopedia written and maintained by a community of volunteers through open collaboration and the use of the wiki-based editing system MediaWiki. Wikipedia is the largest and most-read reference work in history.
Talking Heads Wiki is largely influenced by Wikipedia, including the formatting, the software choice, the name, and the service it provides. Both wikis use MediaWiki software and allow anybody to edit information. However, there are many differences between the two, such as:
- the specific nature of this website, focusing on the band Talking Heads as opposed to every topic
- the amount of users, editors, and developers for Talking Heads Wiki is significantly smaller than Wikipedia
- Wikipedia is a bit more strict while Talking Heads Wiki is a bit more lenient
- Wikipedia allows users to edit semi-anonymously, with an edit being credited to an IP address instead of an account. Talking Heads Wiki requires that you create an account before editing.
Many of the articles here are based on the corresponding Wikipedia articles, with content copied and modified to fit the different nature of this website. Wikipedia has rules about who/what is notable enough for a Wikipedia article, while this website has rules about who/what is relevant enough for a Talking heads Wiki article. For example, in Wikipedia a song like Who Is It? does not have its own article, but it does here. Likewise, Wikipedia has an article for the film Titanic but this website does not.
