Steve Scales (born 1951 April 27) was an auxiliary percussionist who was a part of the first live expanded lineup of Talking Heads, first performing with the band at Heatwave Festival on 1980 August 23. Steve was well known for taking his shirt off during performances and working as hype man for the band.
First playing in smaller R&B acts like The Winners, Steve would eventually join Talking Heads through mutual contacts Busta Jones and Bernie Worrell.
Steve would last play with the band at Sweetwaters South Festival on 6 February 1984, the final live touring performance of Talking Heads. Although he did join the band for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction on 18 March 2002.
