Talking Heads concert chronology |
On December 13, 1983, Talking Heads performed at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. This concert was the first of a four-night residency at the venue which was used to record Stop Making Sense, although reportedly none of the first night was used in the film.
Details
After seeing Talking Heads in California earlier in the Speaking in Tongues Tour, director Jonathan Demme approached them about documenting their shows with a concert film, which they decided to record in California. After originally planning to film at San Francisco's Kabuki Theatre on December 10 and 11, they moved the filming location to Hollywood's Pantages Theatre instead. Following a rehearsal at the theatre with no audience on December 12, this was the first night of filming, although it has been reported that none of the shots from this night were used in the film. This is the first concert of the tour to exclude The Book I Read and Love → Building on Fire from the setlist, replaced by Found a Job which they had last performed in 1979 during the Fear of Music Tour.
