Talking Heads reunions

Talking Heads were together from 1975 until 1991, releasing 8 studio albums in that time. Throughout the 80s, the band continued to release albums while also pursuing their own side projects. After the release of Naked in 1988, there was little activity from Talking Heads for the following few years, although all members continued their own projects. Tom Tom Club had a guest appearance by Jerry Harrison and David Byrne for two songs, which was the final performance by all four Talking Heads members before Byrne announced that the band had broken up in December 1991. There have been several partial reunions since then.

The Heads

In the years that followed, there were attempts to get back together that eventually led to a version of the band reuniting with Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison but without David Byrne, called The Heads (and temporarily "Shrunken Heads"). They released an album called No Talking, Just Head and toured, although legal disputes between them and Byrne led to an out-of-court settlement and no further activity from The Heads.

1999 Reunion

The band had a reunion in 1999, revolving around the 15th anniversary of Stop Making Sense and a press conference where the four members gathered to discuss the film.

2002 Reunion

In 2002, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Talking Heads, with all four members appearing for the ceremony and performing several songs, in their only live performance together since 1989 and their only live performance together as Talking Heads since 1984.

2023-2024 Reunions

In 2022, it was revealed that the band had begun communicating with each other again via Zoom calls, which came alongside several increases in the band's activity, such as several repressings, a new website, social media accounts, merchandise. In 2023, A24 acquired rights to Stop Making Sense and announced an upcoming rerelease for its 40th anniversary, which would include various forms such as the first ever double-LP release of the live album, a remastered 4K version, a theatrical rerelease, and (in 2024) a release with home media and streaming. The release featured various events that included the first appearances of all four band members together since 2002. They held Q&A sessions at several screenings of the film, beginning on September 11, 2023 at Toronto Film Festival, and also included several group interviews. This continued into 2024, with an upcoming pair of anniversary screenings with all four band members present for a Q&A. One will be in New York City at King's Theater, and the other will be in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theater where the film was originally filmed.
